Amarone Tommasi Della Valpolicella Classico DOCG Riserva Ca’ Florian 2013
Ca’ Florian is the heart of Tommasi, the vineyard of origin and the intimate, private place we have called home since 1902. It was the natural choice to pay tribute to our humble origins, and the tribute could be none other than our prized Amarone reserve.
Right next to the house where our grandfather Giacomo settled, there are the first family vineyards. Here we have preserved every living memory of tradition: from the “marogne,” terraced vineyards in dry-stone masonry and raised on the Veronese pergola, to the drying of the grapes on the “arele,” the traditional bamboo trellises.
Each vintage numbers less than 9,000 bottles, and conveys the core values of simplicity and elegance that have always guided our winemaking. Try forgetting it in the cellar for an unforgettable experience in a decade or two.
Sensory description
Intense ruby red with garnet hues, the nose offers an elegant and very complex bouquet with notes of very ripe red fruit, cherry, blackberry and plum and spicy nuances of licorice and bitter cocoa. The palate is full-bodied and austere, with enveloping tannins and a finish of splendid freshness and excellent persistence.
Pairings
A great meditation wine, at table it accompanies important game dishes, red meats and selections of aged cheeses with its elegant, full-bodied structure.
Provenance
From the Pergola Veronese vineyards of the prestigious Cru Ca’ Florian, in the hillside area of Pedemonte in Valpolicella Classica.

Corvina 75%, Corvinone 20%, Rondinella 5%.
Vinification and Aging
Manual harvesting and sorting into 5/6 kg boxes. After a second selection, the grapes are put to dry in an airy fruit loft for 100 days on traditional racks, called “Arele.” In January, crushing is done and fermentation takes place slowly for 30 days in oak vats, using only indigenous yeasts. Aging lasts 4 years and takes place for the first year in barriques and for the next 3 years in 35 hl Slavonian oak barrels. Amarone Ca’ Florian then rests in bottle for at least a year.
