Barolo Roagna Pira 2014 Docg cl 75
Pira is exposed to the southeast, in the Serralunga and Perno slope, born from the breakup of the Rocche. It is a geographical mention monopoly of our family since 1989, when it was purchased. It is the largest estate vineyard: 11 Ha total of which 4,88.30 are planted with Nebbiolo, with unique soil and microclimate. It is protected in the upper part by the Castiglione Rocks and in the valley by a forest with a stream flowing from the Bussia. It is the perfect habitat for our concept of viticulture that respects soil life.
We can divide Pira into 6 different microplots according to soil composition (ranging from Roca limestone to bluish marl) and according to the age of the vines.
The vines for this wine are between 25 and 50 years old, the vines are exclusively of mass origin with wood obtained by pruning from the old vines of this monopoly.
The vineyard is normally harvested in mid-October, at perfect physiological ripeness; the harvest is by hand, in small boxes. Before being vinified, the grapes follow 2 additional manual selections to check their prefect integrity.
Fermentation takes place exclusively in wooden vats thanks to a pied de cuve of Indigenous yeasts and lasts for about ten days. Then the ancient maceration technique of submerged cap splinting is applied, which lasts for 2 months/2 1/2 months (60-75 days).
The wine then matures in a neutral oak barrel for about 5 years.
Bottle production is limited, with less than 15,000 bottles per vintage.
The total number of bottles produced can be found in the label.
