Benanti Etna Bianco DOC 2021

Giuseppe Benanti must be considered a true pioneer of the Etna area, in fact he is credited with the rebirth of this wine-growing area which was never highlighted until 1988, when the Benanti company was born.

In that year Giuseppe, a renowned local entrepreneur, decides to resume the old family passion, giving life to an in-depth selection of Etna soils suited to viticulture and the selection of the most suitable clones of native vines.

The company is currently managed by Giuseppe’s sons, Antonio and Salvino, who have decided to devote themselves entirely to the family winery, managing to place it back in the elite of the Italian wine scene.

The wines come entirely from the Etna area and each of them expresses a peculiarity of the area. The most representative are obviously the three crus, starting with the PietraMarina totally produced from the Carricante vine coming from the municipality of Milo, on the east side of the volcano, the only area in which Etna bianco can boast the Superior denomination. The ungrafted vines are about 90 years old, are trained as saplings and are located at an altitude of about 950 meters.

Benanti Etna Bianco DOC 2021

Grape variety: Carricante
Type of wine: still white
Vinification and aging:
fermentation in steel with yeasts
autochthonous – steel aging

Etna D.O.C. White

On the mountain.
Selection of grapes from vineyards located on the east and south sides of Etna, particularly suited for the high altitude (from 700 to 950 m a.s.l.) and abundant brightness.

In the Vineyard.
Carricante in purity. Autochthonous white grape variety from the Etna volcano. The grape is medium in size with a very prune, yellowish green skin. The clusters are of medium length and on average sparse. The soils are sandy, volcanic, rich in minerals, with a sub-acid reaction. The plants, aged from 20 to 60 years, are cultivated with both traditional sapling and espalier, with planting densities ranging from 6,000 to 7,000 plants per hectare and yields of 7,000 – 8,000 kg / ha. The mountain and high hill climate is humid and rainy in the coldest season, with high ventilation and significant thermal excursions.

In the basement.
The grapes are harvested by hand after the first ten days of October, de-stemmed and pressed with soft pressing. Fermentation takes place for about 15 days at a controlled temperature of about 18 ° C in steel tanks, using specific indigenous yeasts selected after a long experimentation in the vineyard and cellar. The wine is left to mature in tanks on the fine lees for a few months before being bottled. Refinement in the bottle for about 2-3 months.

In the Chalice.
At sight, it appears straw yellow in color with green hues. The nose is intense, delicate, with hints of apple. On the palate it is dry, mineral with a pleasant acidity, flavor and aromatic persistence.
Serving temperature: 10 – 12 ° C

At the table.
It goes well with fish and seafood dishes. Excellent by the glass
