Castelgiocondo Brunello Di Montalcino 2017 Frescobaldi
DENOMINATION
Climate trend
The 2017 season was characterized by a rather mild winter with temperatures slightly above average. The summer and spring periods were characterized by high temperatures and low rainfall. The combination of the clay soils and particularly dry seasonal conditions resulted in vegetative growth resulting in an excellent ripening stage. The grapes arrived at harvest time healthy, intact and well concentrated. The abundance of light and warmth in 2017 gave CastelGiocondo’s wines extraordinary power and richness.
Vinification and maturation
The careful care put into the vineyard, along with the typicalities of this unmistakable terroir, resulted in a beautiful harvest. The Sangiovese grapes were harvested by hand and once they arrived at the winery, subjected to scrupulous selection. Fermentations took place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with frequent pumping over especially during the early stages. The wine then underwent maturation in wood, where it had a chance to mature and balance. CastelGiocondo Brunello is ready for release 5 years after the harvest and only after further bottle aging.
Tasting Notes
CastelGiocondo 2017 has a deep and bright ruby red color. Like every vintage, 2017, gave us wonderful elegance. Bouquet characterized by fruity scents especially in its incipt, with notes reminiscent of raspberry, blackcurrant and even pomegranate; also beautiful floral sensations of violet and rose, extremely harmonious and charming. With time its maturity becomes extremely interesting, opening up to spicy notes such as white pepper, clove and anise but also to roasted sensations and more evolved notes such as those of roasting and licorice. On the palate, the tannic texture is dense and the perceived minerality is beautiful. Incredibly harmonious wine with a long, lingering finish.
