The most famous of the Maison’s wines was created in 1876 to satisfy the discerning taste of Tsar Alexander II. The emperor asks Louis Roederer to reserve for him each year the Maison’s best cuvée, which he particularly appreciates. To accentuate the uniqueness of this exceptional champagne, a flat-bottomed crystal bottle will be specially created. It will bear the name of this fine material, which enhances its transparency and brightness.

STYLE

Vintage characterized by a continental, sunny climate, with a harsh, dry winter followed by a splendid sunny summer with little precipitation in August and September. These are all factors that have led to the classic development of the vine, a remarkable state of vineyard health and perfect grape ripening-the ideal context for the elaboration of full-bodied, fruity and mouth-watering wines! The 2009 fully enters the “ranks” of the best brilliant champagne vintages thanks to this sunny yet light trait.

ELABORATION

60% Pinot noir, 40% Chardonnay, Of which 16% of wines vinified in wood(oak barrels), no malolactic fermentation.

The Cristal cuvée is made from the Grands Crus of the Montagne de Reims, the Vallée de la Marne and the Côte des Blancs. It is matured for an average of 6 years in the cellars, to which is added a rest of 8 months after disgorgement to perfect its maturity. The dosage is 8 g/l.

TASTING

Golden yellow color with opaque amber highlights.

Lingering effervescence, bright, subtle and exuberant.

Refined, intriguing and intense bouquet, revealing notes of citrus and candied apricot, with a sweet hint of honeysuckle.

Slightly vanilla cocoa bean, roasted hazelnut, and a hint of licorice and cinnamon are perceived on the nose. The palate is well-structured, lively and chiseled. The first sensation is full-bodied, ripe and silky, amplified by the discovery of freshness reminiscent of chalk quarries, a velvety, mentholated freshness. A series of mouth-watering and varied textures, perfectly complemented by the lightness and sophistication of the wine, convey a sense of ethereal delicacy, inviting a journey of the senses. Cristal’s luminous personality, with its sharp, pure soul, flows into a finish focused on chalk, energy and berries.
