There is little doubt that Champagne Henri Giraud has become in the last decade one of the best Champagne producers ever and, the Esprit Nature cuvée, is the perfect symbol of this evolution.
Claude Giraud and Sébastien Legolvet (his son-in-law who now heads the Maison) recently completely revolutionized the wine. The blend is now 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay, and the cuvée includes a minimum of 50% reserve wines. In addition, since 2016 Champagne Henri Giraud has completely abandoned the use of steel and all its champagnes are vinified either in Argonne Forest wood or in concrete or terracotta eggs.
Champagne Esprit Nature has become the first in the world to be certified without residual pesticides, and you can view the analysis by notching the QR code on the back of each bottle. Finally, the level of sulfur dioxide was further lowered to less than 40mg per liter.
That is why today Henri Giraud Esprit Nature is a champagne that truly represents the winery’s style: complex, intriguing, sensual, structured and very easy to drink.
The nose has hints of pear and peach mingling with notes of vanilla, white pepper and citrus. The palate is initially fresh and then continues with mineral and cookie notes. Besides being a good aperitif, it is perfect as an all-day Champagne.
The dosage, contrary to what you might think, is 7g/l. In fact, the term Nature in Champagne does not indicate a brut zero
