THE CZAR’S WINE

The most famous of the Maison’s wines was created in 1876 to satisfy the discerning taste of Tsar Alexander II. The emperor asks Louis Roederer to reserve for him each year the Maison’s best cuvée, which he particularly appreciates. To accentuate the uniqueness of this exceptional champagne, a flat-bottomed crystal bottle will be specially created. It will bear the name of this fine material, which enhances its transparency and brightness.

CRISTAL CHAMPAGNE – AN ABSOLUTE HARMONY

Developed only in “great vintages,” when the maturity of the Chardonnay (about 40 percent) and Pinot Noir (about 60 percent) that make it up is perfect, Cristal Brut ages in the cellar for 6 years and rests 8 months after disgorgement.

Remarkably balanced, Cristal is a linear champagne with an absolutely unique persistence in the mouth. The velvety texture reveals fruit aromas supported by a mineral power from which notes of white fruits and citrus fruits emanate. Cristal is a wine that ages wonderfully. It can be kept for more than 20 years without losing any of its freshness and character.

A three-step climatic waltz with strong, sharp and decisive contrasts! A gorgeous, dry spring that flows into a scorching June; an autumn summer, cool and rainy; a warm, sunny and very dry September — worthy of an August. The “key” to the vintage lies in the soil and the work of the winemakers: the gypsum, rewarding because it is more draining, in the medium-low zone from the hillside, has made it possible to eliminate the excess water of the esta- te and to limit stagnation… fundamental our increasingly virtuous viticultural practices, which allow us to go further in the search for balance in the grapes and ripening.

Tasting notes:

Golden, bright and shiny. Dynamic effervescence followed by an intense, fragrant bouquet of great purity. Citrus and candied fruits combine with notes of harvest and roasted almonds.

On the palate the silky texture, is amplified by a delicate effervescence that is perfectly integrated and deliciously elegant.

The purity and perfection of ripe yellow fruits blend with the intense chalky freshness, typical of Cristal, palpable and savory at the same time. Full-bodied and juicy sip, defined and spiced by the partial aging period in oak barrels.
