Gaja’s Barbaresco Costa Russi is a wine made from the vineyard of the same name located in the commune of Barbaresco. The name is the result of a union between the Piedmontese dialect term Costa, which indicates the hillside with the best southern exposure, and the nickname of the old vineyard owner, “Russi,” from which Angelo Gaja produces this great wine. Barbaresco Costa Russi is made from Nebbiolo grapes, harvested by hand and fermented in steel vats; afterwards, the wine is aged in barrique for 12 months, then matured in large barrels for another 12 months to bring out the best aromas and scents. This exceptional wine has a garnet red color with elegant orange hues. The nose is a triumph: violets and medicinal herbs, roasted coffee notes, currants and ripe plums ennobled by memories of mint chocolate. On the palate the wine is intriguing and robust, rich and deeply textured, with mineral overtones, savory and endowed with great tannic persistence. Tasting notes Color: Bright garnet red with orange hues; Bouquet: Exhaling aromas of cherry, wild fruits, ennobled by hints of mint chocolate; Taste: Full-bodied and intense, endowed with elegant freshness, mineral notes and soft but structured tannins. Great persistence and high aging potential. First bottle produced in 1978. Alc. 14% vol.
