Elephant Gin London Dry cl 50
The idea for an African-inspired gin came about thinking of the “sundowner,” a kind of evening aperitif sipped at sunset after a day spent in the African savannas. Sunset G&Ts are a great tradition, and what better than a gin made with exotic African plants to capture this moment? Thus, while juniper is still the dominant flavor, Elephant Gin stands out with its harmonious combination of plants, roots, and leaves that not only make for a unique flavor but also convey tradition and culture. To create Elephant Gin, its founders were inspired by their adventurous experiences in Africa. Elephant London Dry is a premium craft gin with a 45 percent alcohol content. The unique blend of 14 herbs and spices includes rare African ingredients and fresh apples that give a distinctive flavor profile to the gin. There are, for example, the citrusy hints of baobab, the remarkable bucco plant, which is reminiscent of black currant on the palate, and African mugwort, with its distinct floral aroma. Characterizing the flavor profile of the gin, however, are the apples, which are used in large quantities. The nose is captured by a subtle aroma of juniper, with undertones of mountain pine and other herbaceous notes. The flavor is complex but incredibly smooth, rich in floral, fruity, and spicy aromas that can be appreciated by drinking the gin either neat or in a cocktail. Elephant Gin is distilled using artisanal methods, with copper stills in small batches of about 600 bottles. The secret to quality is hand-selected botanicals, local spring water, and no addition of artificial flavors after distillation.

To create Elephant Gin its founders, Robin and Tessa Gerlach, were inspired by their adventurous experiences in Africa. Their strong belief is that current generations have a responsibility to preserve African nature. That’s why Elephant Gin contributes 15 percent of its earnings to the activities of the three foundations Big Life Foundation, Space For Elephants and Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, which work to protect the African elephant from extinction.
