Glenfarclas – in Gaelic, “the valley of green pastures” – extends at the foot of the mountain of Ben Rinnes, in Speyside. It is here that the Glenfarclas distillery was built in 1836, which thirty years later, in 1865, was bought by the Grant family. Today it is the sixth generation of the family, in the person of George Grant, to lead the distillery. The latest proudly remained independent from the major global beverage groups.
Three main ingredients are needed to produce Glenfarclas: pure, cold and crystalline water from the natural springs of Mount Ben Rinnes, barley entirely produced in Scotland, in the Moray area, and yeast. After the distillation, which is always carried out in small batches, the Whiskey is placed to rest in the best Sherry oak barrels of Spain: Glenfarclas is in fact the only distillery to use mainly Sherry barrels (a practice now more unique than rare , as well as very expensive, which gives the product a very special, rich, fruity and spicy taste).
Throughout its history, the Glenfarclas distillery has won countless international awards. In 2006 it sealed its 170 years of life with the “Distiller of the Year” award, the most coveted in the sector, awarded by the “Whiskey Magazine”.
Maturation in 100% oloroso sherry cask.
Gloriously smooth, but with the depth and finish you’d normally expect from a much older dram.
You will have wonderfully sherry whiskey and an excellent aperitif.
