Livio Felluga Illivio 2020 Friuli Colli Orientali Cl 75
Created in 1998 by Livio Felluga ‘s children and dedicated to him on his 85th birthday, illivio expresses the personality of the “Patriarch,” combining strength and elegance.
Primarily trained by Guyot, the vines benefit from soils composed of marl and sandstone of Eocene origin. The 2019 harvest took place during the first half of September. Healthy, perfectly ripe grapes are harvested by hand, in small crates, to preserve the integrity of the berry. Gently destemmed and left to macerate for a short time it is then softly pressed, and the resulting must is clarified by decanting. Temperature-controlled fermentation in small oak barrels follows. At the end of malolactic fermentation, the wine remains a few months on the lees in small oak barrels to increase its flavor, creaminess and vocation for aging.
Color: Intense and bright straw yellow.
Nose: Intense and complex, enveloping and creamy, with distinct floral and ripe fruit notes. It opens with scents of linden blossom, wisteria, broom and chamomile that blend with fruity notes of yellow peach, apricot, tangerine and tropical fruits such as pineapple and mango. Aging in small oak barrels gives gentle woody notes of coconut, mace, vanilla pods, brown sugar and sweet spices. It closes with a delicate finish of rosemary and walnut husk.
Palate: Enters full and harmonious. Dense and full-bodied, the smoothness is balanced by fresh acidity. Aromas of yellow plum, peach and papaya alternate with notes of wildflower honey and white chocolate. Savory and persistent, closes creamy and pleasantly mineral.
Pairings: Especially good with fish dishes, risottos and fresh cheeses.
