Louis Roederer Collection 243 Magnum Lt. 1.5
A FORWARD-LOOKING VISION
A new ambition, a form of freedom, now lead Maison Louis Roederer to write a new chapter in its history by creating Collection. The current era, climate change, the importance of sustainable viticulture that respects the living matter to express all the qualities of the terroir, are all obvious aspects to which we wanted to respond.
Out of constraints and adversity often come the most beautiful works. Animated by a new spirit, the Maison has chosen to renew its assemblages, to shape its savoir-faire in a different way, to rethink its gestures to adapt to this new rhythm of Nature and thus remain always on the move, moving forward and adapting.
A WINEMAKER’S APPROACH TO THE “HEART OF THE TERROIR”
All of Collection’s parcels, those that are part of Louis Roederer’s estates and those of its historical partners, have therefore been redefined, to retain only those most suited to its identity, linked to the heart of Champagne’s terroir.
This search for Champagne’s “expressionist” terroirs comes to life in a combination of different origins, varied locations and exposures, lands with strong identities, most often on chalky soils, the most suitable for long-term development. This approach makes it possible not only to cope better with climate change, through resilience and complexity, but also to ensure the freshness of these wines, a prerogative of the “Louis Roederer style.”
THE ART OF ASSEMBLY
Freed from any imposition, each year seeking only the best wine, the Maison puts the art of blending more than ever at the center of its approach.
The wines from the year’s harvest are rigorously tasted plot by plot, then assembled according to a complex subdivision, thus recreating the perfect image of the Collection vineyard.
RÉSERVE PERPÉTUELLE AND WOOD-AGED RESERVE WINES
To further enhance the freshness and balance the splendid ripeness of the crops, a Réserve Perpétuelle was created. Started with the 2012 vintage, enriched each year with the latest harvest and stored in large-capacity stainless steel tanks, Réserve Perpétuelle gives new sensations, both tactile and gustatory.
The House’s signature, absolute recognition of its style, wood-aged reserve wines make up 10 percent of the Collection 243 blend. The passage of time lends sweetness and smoothness to the assemblage, some smoky, slightly toasted notes.
