Louis Roederer Collection 244 Cl 75
AN OUTSTANDING 2019 VINTAGE
This 244th assemblage of the Maison Louis Roederer is due to the successes of the 2019 vintage, which broke all temperature records during some unusually intense heat waves. Arid and continental, with splendid ripening, it characterizes wines that are both intense and fresh, with masterful balance, ready to reveal in blending the powerful and refined character of Collection.
All the wines of this vintage were rigorously tasted plot by plot, then assembled according to a complex subdivision, thus recreating the perfect image of the vintage.
FEATURES
It is Maison Louis Roederer’s new, unprecedented blending idea that was created to concretize the path of converting the vineyards to biodynamics undertaken 20 years ago. This is an evolutionary Brut sans année, benefiting from the effects of climate change; a tribute to reserve wines and the best estate vineyards. Each cuvée is numbered consecutively, 242 representing the number of vintages made in the history of the Maison, which was founded in 1776. The blend of each Collection has as its base, the grapes of a single vintage.
A WINEMAKER’S APPROACH TO THE “HEART OF THE TERROIR”
True to its roots, the Maison is committed to its historical origins: 1/3 Vineyard of “la Rivière,” 1/3 Vineyard of “la Montagne,” and 1/3 Vineyard of “la Côte.” All of Collection’s plots, those that are part of Louis Roederer’s estates and those of longtime partners, have been redefined, to retain only those most suited to its identity, linked to the heart of Champagne’s terroir.
TAILOR-MADE WINEMAKING
Composed of 54 percent wines from the 2019 vintage, the Collection 244 cuvée is an ode to taste and hedonism. The Chef de Caves composes a new score each time, inspired by the tone of the year and adding the Réserve Perpétuelle and wood-aged reserve wines.
Réserve Perpétuelle represents a significant percentage of Collection’s assemblage, its point of balance and freshness; 36 percent for Collection 244. Parallel to the Réserve Perpétuelle, 10 percent of wines from earlier vintages and from young plots in the Cristal domaine, aged in French oak barrels, were added to the blend.
WIDE OPEN TO THE UNIQUENESS OF COLLECTION 244
Aged for nearly 4 years in our cellars, Collection 244 is a cuvée of great fullness, supported by the ripeness of the year, the freshness of Réserve Perpétuelle and the complexity of the wood-aged reserve wines. This is a wonderfully balanced champagne with a power of great refinement, marking the return of Meunier, which lends a caressing, fruity delicacy to the more structured and savory Pinot noirs and Chardonnays.
