An emblematic wine from Castello Nipozzano, a historic Frescobaldi estate a few kilometers north-east of Florence, Nipozzano Riserva is the symbol of the Tuscan winemaking tradition and the indissoluble bond with the terroir.

Climate trend

A cold winter, especially in the last period, in which various rainy and snowy events were recorded, was followed by a variable spring. This is because sunny days and rainy days, even quite intense, alternated. These rains helped restore water supplies. Thanks to the higher spring temperatures, the phenological phases took place in line with the season. High temperatures were also recorded throughout the summer. The thunderstorms of the second half of August brought that refreshment necessary for a splendid ripening. The temperature range in September helped in the aromatic synthesis and maintenance of freshness, typical of the wines produced at Castello Nipozzano.

Vinification and maturation

As soon as the grapes were harvested, they were immediately transferred to the cellar. Here, once de-stemmed, the spontaneous fermentation process took place in thermo-regulated stainless steel tanks. At the end of this, the wine remained in the vats to conclude the maceration. Following the racking, the malolactic fermentation took place, always carried out in steel. At the end of the year the wine was racked into barriques, where it matured for the following months. The further period in the bottle allowed Nipozzano 2018 to express itself to the fullest, making it a wine with an exceptional expressive balance.

Tasting notes

Nipozzano 2018 presents a wonderful balance of components. Hers is a bright ruby ​​red color. The nose is characterized by hints of red and black berries, such as black cherry, raspberry, blueberry, red and black currant; delicate citrus notes follow that give rise to a beautiful freshness. The floral notes also characterize the profile of this wine with hints reminiscent of violet and dog rose. The bouquet is completed by delicate spicy notes of black pepper and balsamic notes, which reinforce the sensation of elegant freshness. On the palate the acid-alcoholic component is perfectly balanced. The tannic texture is well present, in a very elegant way.
