According to legend, a vivid glow of light grew against the inky-black sky above Oban, guided by a celestial being. A lively and energetic creature carried the stars, charged through the heavens and flooded the sky with an explosion of purple brilliance, spreading its ethereal light over Oban’s distillery. An intense vibrancy lit up the soils with plum and blackberry undertones, infusing Oban with an otherworldly sweetness rarely seen.

On a rare autumn night in Oban Bay, the twinkling lights of the Aurora Borealis illuminate this picturesque coastal town and its namesake distillery. One of Scotland’s oldest and smallest distilleries, Oban arose in 1794, bringing an electric vibrancy to a quiet environment. However small it may be, its mythical nature has been written in the stars for centuries.

Matured in refill and new American oak, then double-matured in former Sherry & Amontillado barrels, delicate scent of saltiness and sea air. The creamy texture introduces a rich taste of sweet hints of wine-poached spiced plum, balanced by vibrant salt and spice, before finishing as chili. A rich, sticky sweetness shines through the light smoke and salt in an Oban with supernatural character.

Delicate on the nose, with maritime aromas, this supernatural Oban has a rich personality on the palate; a second maturation in Amontillado barrels gently bringing new layers of vibrancy and flavor.
Rich caramel and spices brighten purple plum and blackberry. Secondary aging in aged former Sherry and Amontillado barrels.
A heavenly marriage of creamy smoothness, richly sweet fruitiness, light smoke, salt and peppery spices.
To be served neat, pour 60 ml of Oban 10YO into a whiskey glass.

NOSE

Gentle to the touch, no tingling. Top notes are faint at first but become easier to discern, dotted with maritime scents of salt crystals, edible seaweed, and ozone-fresh sea air. As the senses adjust, a very faint smokiness appears, infused with simple suggestions of lint and light olive oil, and a hint of lemon citrus.

PALATE

The texture is smooth and creamy, while the taste shines brightly with fruit and wine notes that carry hints of sweet violet and spicy plum. The fruit is balanced by a lively spiciness encountered first as mid-palate saltiness, then in a sparkling splash of chili. A little water sweetens the taste, taming the spiciness without altering the overall balance.

FINAL

Quite long and surprisingly peppery, it leaves a soft reminder of chili in the maritime aftertaste.
