Grappa Berta Oltre il Vallo 2020 Cl 70
It is May 2010, when a new project is born in Mombaruzzo. Two realities meet, the Berta family and Diageo Italia. The idea was born: Beyond the Wall, a fine aged grappa, aged in single malt scotch whiskey barrels. The project is the union of two cultures: the artisanal passion of the Berta family and the craftsmanship of the finest Scottish tradition, represented by a global company like Diageo, a world leader in premium alcoholic beverages. Two such different cultures, yet united by a passion for distilling. On one side is grappa, a tradition of the countryside of the Italian land, and on the other side is Scottish single malt, the fruit of the fields of northern Europe. The name Beyond the Wall is a reminder of how no one ever got beyond Hadrian’s ancient fortifications, that wall that represented the northernmost border of the Roman Empire in Britain for much of the period of Roman rule over these lands. A fortification that divided the island into two parts. No one ever managed to go beyond this boundary, until today, when Highlands and Monferrato symbolically unite in this aged distillate. The casks, selected one by one, come from those faraway lands, from Scotland’s oldest and finest distilleries-Lagavulin, Caol Ila, and Mortlach, important names that have made and are making the history of the finest Scotch whisky. Amber in color, Oltre il Vallo is characterized by a smooth and enveloping flavor. At first it is an explosion of scents ranging from notes of pomace, raisins, dried fruit and almond. Later these sensations give way to a slight hint of smoke, peat, and malt. Silky and enveloping, it lingers for a long time in the mouth and reconfirms on the palate the olfactory sensations of softness, in a bouquet of scents reminiscent of orange, hazelnut and, on the finish, tobacco and honey. The alcohol content is 43% vol.
