Manufacturers claim that the bitter was made by a certain Petrus Boonekamp in 1777 (although there is no historical evidence of this person’s existence) by distilling several plants such as: Alpinia officinarum, Aloe socrotina, Angelica archangelica and Coriandrum sativum. Petrus should normally be tasted neat at room temperature. It can also be consumed with the addition of ice although the taste may be altered. An additional alternative is to taste it in the Petrus Cola cocktail.
