Pian delle Vigne 2017 Marchesi Antinori Brunello di Montalcino Docg
The philosophy oriented towards the large barrel, capable of preserving the extraordinary integrity of the Sangiovese fruit and giving the Brunello its characteristic vibrant elegance, finds an extraordinary expression in the Brunello Pian delle Vigne.
Climate
The 2017 vintage will be remembered for the generally hot and dry climate, both during the winter and during the spring and summer. These climatic conditions favored an early budding, limited the vegetative development of the vine and reduced the size of the bunches, which at the time of harvest were perfectly intact and healthy. The agronomic management and the frequent tillage of the soil have made it possible to obtain the maximum from the slight water reserves present in the land, making them available to the plants. The rains of early September slightly lowered the temperatures and guaranteed a beneficial refreshment for the vine, favoring a fairly balanced and regular conclusion of ripening. The harvest began at the beginning of September and ended on the 26th of the same month, slightly earlier than the historical average.
Vinification
Upon arrival in the cellar, the grapes were de-stemmed and softly pressed and then transferred to stainless steel tanks where alcoholic fermentation took place. Maceration took an average of twelve days at a temperature of 28 ° C. After the malolactic fermentation, the wine was transferred to oak barrels ranging in size from 30 to 80 Hl where the aging process in wood began. After two years Pian delle Vigne left the large barrel to move towards the long aging in the bottle.
