Planeta Eruzione 1614 Carricante Sicilia DOC 2019
Etna’s history is punctuated by historic eruptions that have shaped its shape.
Legendary that of 1614, lasting 10 years, the longest of all time, stopped right at the edge of the Sciaranuova vineyards.
A strongly evocative name for our Etna Cru; Carricante with a small addition of Rhine Riesling. Black soils at altitude impart a fresh, savory and mineral style.
90% Carricante, 10% Riesling Renano
SOIL TYPE: Soils with perfect exposure and bedding, black from lava sands and therefore extraordinarily rich in minerals with abundant, large structure; around, forests and more recent lava flows. ALTIMETRY: 815 to 860 meters above sea level.
YIELD PER HECTARE: Carricante 70 quintals;
Rhine Riesling 60 quintals.
GROWTH SYSTEM: espalier with spurred cordon and Guyot pruning system. PLANTING DENSITY: 5,050 plants per hectare. CULTIVATION METHOD: according to organic farming criteria and the SOStain® protocol; grassed soils with wild flora to increase organic matter, promoting the viability of soil microfauna; phytosanitary defense with sulfur and copper in minimal amounts; pest control with beneficial insects, sexual confusion and application of natural corroborants such as zeolite, kaolin and plant extracts.
TIME OF HARVEST: Carricante October 18-22; Riesling Renano September 18.
WINE-MAKING: The grapes, harvested in cases, were immediately chilled to 8°C; hand-selected and sent for light crushing and soft pressing. The decanted must was decanted and fermented at 15 °C, in stainless steel. The resulting wine remained until June. AGING: stainless steel. BOTTLING: September 2020. ALCOHOL GRADATION: 12.8% vol.
TOTAL ACIDITY: 6.75 g/l
AGEING CAPACITY: great potential, 7 to 10 years.
CAP: one-piece natural cork.
ORGANOLEPTIC NOTES: In this case, the very faint golden color does not foreshadow the explosion of aromas of flowers and white fruits that magically transport the taster to the slopes of the volcano. On the palate, too, the wine succeeds in combining smoothness and gritty flavor with a drinkability rich with a sincere fruitiness of lemon zest and green apple, linked to an enthralling minerality that lengthens the finish. PAIRING: An extraordinary companion to fish dishes of a certain fattiness and still ideal for any gastronomic idea thought out by the sea.
