Pol Roger Champagne Blanc de Blancs Vintage 2015
The “Cuvée”
Brut Blanc de Blancs 2015 is made exclusively from Chardonnays selected from the Grands Crus of the Côte des Blancs: Oiry, Chouilly, Cramant, Avize, Oger and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. Produced in limited quantities, this Cuvée was aged for 6 years in the cellars before being released to the market.
Vinification and Maturation
The must undergoes two débourbages (decantations), one in the press immediately after pressing and the second, a débourbage à froid, in stainless steel tanks at 6°C for 24 hours. A slow cold fermentation with temperature maintained below 18°C takes place in stainless steel with each variety and village kept separate. The wine undergoes a complete malolactic fermentation before final blending. Re-fermentation takes place in bottles at 9°C in Pol Roger’s deepest cellars (33 meters below street level) where the wine is stored until it undergoes manual remuage (remuage), a rarity these days in Champagne. The very fine, persistent froth for which Pol Roger is famous owes much to these deep, cool, moist cellars.
Tasting Notes
The 2015 Blanc de Blancs is distinguished by its very pale gold color, delicately tinged with green highlights and highlighted by a steady perlage of fine bubbles. The first nose is expressive and powerful, offering a range of fragrances that blend lemon zest and pastry. Its creamy evolution creates a delicious and succulent character. After breathing, the wine exudes complex aromas of mocha and cocoa, followed by notes of confectionery and fresh butter combined with the scent of orange peel with remarkable elegance. The palate reveals buttery notes with hints of pastry. Hazelnut liqueur and toasted nuances then gradually emerge to complete this flavor profile, imbued with a nice savory freshness. This is a rich and succulent champagne that combines power and finesse.
