LAYOUT AND SOIL TYPE:

Known: 50 m. s.lm. Slightly sloping soils with an optimal presence of limestone. S.Cristina Gela: 650 m. s.lm. Medium-textured soils with slopes between 10 and 20%, characterized by a good component of clay and located in a mountain area.

GRAPES: Nero D’Avola – Merlot
HARVEST: Manual. September and first ten days of October 2012

PREPARATION CARE: Lowering of the yield in the vineyard (green harvest) and selection of the bunches with healthy and ripe grapes.

VINIFICATION: The grapes are harvested manually in 20 kg crates, harvested in two different periods to maintain the integrity of our terroir, freshness, acidity and roundness in the final product thanks to a good phenolic maturity of the Merlot together with hints of cinnamon and anise from Noto Nero d’Avola. Ramione is born from the selected vineyards of Merlot and Nero D’Avola which have been guaranteeing greater integrity and character for years.

This is followed by a manual selection in the cellar before the grapes are destemmed. The grapes are de-stemmed and pressed at the same time with discretion without tearing the grape. Nero d’avola carries out a cold pre-fermentation to allow greater color extraction before starting alcoholic fermentation. Nero d’Avola is vinified in small capacity tanks, maximum 150 hl for variety selection and type of harvest. This allows us to improve year after year in order to authenticate the character of the main grape of our land. Maceration lasts from 18 to 22 days in a natural way and in relation to the integrity of the fruit. Very light delestage is carried out, with soft wetting of the hat. Merlot carries out a traditional fermentation with punching down and delestage. The intensity and prolongation of the latter are in relation to the state of maturity of the grapes and the vintage. It is preferred to carry out the malolactic fermentation of Nero d’Avola immediately, at the end of the alcoholic fermentation, to keep its primary aromas unaltered.This is followed by maturation in small capacity oak barrels, partly new and partly second passage, always in relation to the vintage.

Alcohol 14% vol. – Total acidity 5.40 gr / l – Ph 3.53

BOTTLES PRODUCED: 63,000 of 750 ml

NOTES: Deep ruby ​​red color. Intense aroma, of fine quality; at first glance it recalls aromas of red berry fruit that precede the spicy ones of vanilla, licorice. The taste is confirmed as a soft and balanced wine, of good intensity with a persistent finish. Overall, it is a wine with good body and good harmony that expresses the different peculiarities of the territories to which it belongs, concentrating them in a single essence. Ramione is for us the wine that represents our philosophy of family and company, tradition, finesse and elegance in full respect of the territory and its main grape variety.

First of the reds produced in Pianetto, this full-bodied and harmonious wine pays homage to the previous owner of the estate, Baron Antonio Palizzolo di Ramione. It was he who started the cultivation of the vine in this locality. Soft and balanced wine, Ramione harmoniously expresses the different peculiarities of the territories to which it belongs, concentrating them in a single essence.
