Venica Ronco Bernizza Chardonnay 2020
One of the best-known and most cultivated white grape varieties in the world, a synthesis of opulence and elegance. Chardonnay is extremely versatile to climates and territories, acquiring a different facet each time depending on the terroir.
Difficult, however, to achieve a delicate and balanced version where its finesse is not weighed down by the important use of wood. “Ronco Bernizza” is definitely a good interpretation of Chardonnay wine, as acclaimed by leading Italian wine guides.
About the origins of Chardonnay wine from Collio, even today there is no certainty, but it is almost certain that it came from Burgundy, from where it gradually spread throughout the world. In particular, it has found a good environment in Friuli Venezia Giulia to best develop its olfactory and gustatory characteristics.
The Chardonnay vineyard is located in Località Bernizza, in the Collio DOC, and thus it is the area toponym that gives its name to the wine itself.

VINE
Chardonnay is produced in a Collio DOC vineyard. It is a white berry grape of French origin, belonging to the “international” grape varieties.
HARVEST
Chardonnay grapes were hand-picked and destemmed on September 26, 2019.
VINIFICATION | AGING
After harvesting, Chardonnay grapes are macerated for about 12/14 hours at a temperature of 10°/12° C in special containers, protected from oxygen with innovative systems by recycling their own fermentation carbonics in order to reduce the intake of antioxidants.
The must ferments and ages on the lees for 6 months in both large 20/27 HL wooden barrels and 5 HL tonneaux (30%) and steel containers (70%).
BOTTLING
The Chardonnay wine was blended and bottled at full moons between late March and June 2020.
COLOR
Chardonnay wine possesses a bright and intense straw color.
OLFACTORY NOTES.
Particularly fruity bouquet, with notes of ripe exotic fruit (pineapple, mango, banana), floral hints of violets, jasmine and linden, citrus nuances, and light buttery and smoky tones that, however, do not cover the typically varietal characteristics of this grape. The nuances of toastiness and vanilla resulting from the use of wood are deliberately delicate, in accordance with the intention to make a Chardonnay wine that is not “internationalized” but has a territorial character, best expressing the typicality of Collio. With aging it takes on voluptuous notes of dried fruits, almonds and roasted hazelnuts.
TASTE NOTES.
Fresh, savory, rightly acidic, broad and complex, highly consistent with the nose. Quite structured and full in the mouth, persistent and balanced.
TO BE ACCOMPANIED BY
Lean appetizers, dry and broth soups, eggs, and fish. Chardonnay pairings: its mellowness and fullness allow it to have a wide range of pairings, beyond classic fish, even with rather structured dishes with strong flavors (e.g., mushrooms, truffles). Also good with cheeses.
