The 2020 vintage is also very special: it is the 90th vintage in the history of the VENICA & VENICA Company.
“APPLE RONCO” VINEYARD
This charming and evocative Sauvignon wine from Collio takes its name from the vineyard of the same name where the grapes that make it so special come from.
The small hill has a beautiful story to tell: during World War I, the vineyard was bombed by the Austrians, which caused a slight landslide of the slope. Therefore, once the acquisition of the estate in 1930 by the
Founder Daniele Venica
, it became necessary to take action. Consequently, in order to sustain the plot’s soil in the following years Daniele decided to plant, in harmony with the existing rows of vines, several apple trees, in keeping with the then widespread promiscuous farming.
The first rooted cuttings of Sauvignon R3 were planted later, in 1984, by.
Gianni and Giorgio Venica
. After carefully observing the soil and climate varieties of the Cerò hillside, they matured in the realization that the northwest exposure was the ideal one for obtaining wines with a good aromatic imprint. The idea of the “Ronco Mele Project” then began to germinate until the production of the first vintage, in 1995, which immediately garnered some of the highest accolades from Italian guidebooks.
The Sauvignon Ronco delle Mele vineyard is located within the Collio DOC. It is oriented toward the Julian Alps with a view of the Canin glacier and a maximum altitude of about 150 m above sea level.
Despite its limited size of about two hectares, it is necessary to harvest the grapes at different times because of the microclimates created between the rows due to the presence of forest and the different exposures to sunlight and breeze from the north.
Sauvignon blanc is one of the world’s best-known “international” grape varieties, loved by Friulians as a native.
A timeless classic, delicate, noble, elegant. Arriving from Bordeaux, in Italy Sauvignon found its ideal environment on the sandstone marls of the Collio hills, making its own the variability of soil and climate that is now an expression of its character, so much so that it can now be considered in Friuli, for all intents and purposes, an indigenous grape variety.

VINIFICATION | AGING

The must ferments and ages on the lees for 5 months in both large 20/27 HL wooden barrels (20%) and steel containers (80%).
Sauvignon Collio wine is blended and bottled at full moons between March and June 2021.
Dazzling in golden green hue.
The olfactory complexity of this wine is incredible, as are the magical sensations that come from it. An array of elegant and complex sensations are released on the nose. The wine opens with vegetal notes ranging from classic tomato leaf to elderflower; delicate citrus nuances of cedar and pink grapefruit then peep through.
The closure is stately, with a slight reminder of the minerality typical of this area.
On the sip, elegance takes center stage. Herbal notes are amplified in a two-step of freshness and savoriness. In the mouth a velvet of taste-olfactory intensity.
It represents a firm resolve to produce a very varietal and savory wine, impeccable in precision and stylistic rigor. A long future awaits him, in the cellar along with the wines of the heart.
