The Barnard family settled in St. Lucia in 1931 to establish the distillery, producing rums from molasses, derived exclusively from sugarcane on the Island’s plantations. The last one closed in the 1960s. Since then St. Lucia Distillers has been purchasing molasses exclusively from Guyana. With this commitment St. Lucia Distillers is based on the highest quality and distinction. Denis Barnard was a true pioneer in the art of ‘blending: from the choice of molasses and different yeasts, differentiating the distillation with 4 different stills. This made it possible from the very beginning to create a complex and qualitative product while maintaining craftsmanship. Denis passed on his assembly technique and philosophy to his grandson Laurie Barnard, who founded Chairman’s Reserve in 1999.

DESCRIPTION St Lucia Distillers’ philosophy is based on innovation and quality. Authenticity, tradition refined experimentation in distillation techniques, allow for some of the best Rum blends in the world. Long-aged meditation rum, handcrafted to replicate that found in the barrels that survived the disastrous fire that struck the Saint Lucia distillery in May 2007. The Cellar Master, during reconstruction, was forced to find more unusual places for barrel storage. These “Forgotten Casks” resulted in a rum that was too aged for the Original Chairman’s Reserve. It was thus decided to make this production a ‘limited edition acclaimed worldwide.
AGING Separated by batch and type of distillation in ex-Bourbon barrels; after blending, the rum rests in oak barrels for an additional 6 months. Average aging is 6 to 11 years.
