Cloudy Bay was born in 1985 from the vision of Australian David Hohnen, who first unveiled to the world the extraordinary vocation for Sauvignon Blanc in New Zealand’s Marlborough Valley. The estate is named after the bay at the eastern end of the Wairau River Valley, christened Cloudy Bay by Captain Cook in 1770.
David Hohnen has redefined the world standard for Sauvignon Blanc, and Cloudy Bay has become a symbol of excellence in New World wines with its targeted viticulture-sometimes only 30 percent of the vintage’s production is sold. Wines from the more than 250 plots are vinified and kept separate until final blending.
In 2020, Cloudy Bay ranked 10th in Drinks International’s “Most Admired Wine Brands” list.
