When he arrived in Marsala, Leone discovered a wonderful Sicily, fascinating people and customs. Like that of Anita, wife of his cellarer Gaspare, who produced a unique and bewitching homemade limoncello. Anita and Gaspar on their own land had many plants and fruit trees that Anita skillfully transformed into unique food and drink. The lemon tree stood next to the orange tree, and farther on was a medlar tree, and a fig tree. Anita used to make her limoncello from the peels of lemons that fell to the ground due to the wind and were still unripe and not very rich in fruit. Therefore, Anita, who was also a bit of an engineer, devised ways to use them differently. With the peels soaked in alcohol and sugar, a fresh, fragrant, thick limoncello was made, and everyone called it “The Artist.” Today our limoncello made only with Sicilian lemon peels and with an artisanal process that respects the raw material and wants to bring inside the glass a product that tastes of tradition, a product that evokes a true story, that simple and exciting at the same time and that takes you back in time.
