Talisker 8 Years Old Special Release 2020 Single Malt Scotch Whisky cl 70
From a malt rich in maritime character, this adventurous version of Talisker is the first ever to be finished in Caribbean rum barrels. They enlivened the marine scents and pungent peppery character of this Skye distillery with the rich, dark, exotic sweetness of warmer climates.
Founded in 1830, Talisker was the first licensed distillery on Skye and remains the oldest working distillery on the island. Known for a full-bodied, rich character and a powerful peppery finish, it is made from the sea, like the oyster beds teeming with life in the clear waters of the island’s west coast.
Deep caramel aromas are balanced by sea salt, dried seaweed, and hot sand on a smoky barbecue base. The texture is smooth, the taste extremely rich and sweet before the classic Talisker heat builds up with a pinch of salt and chili for a smoky, peppery, drying finish.
A vigorous example of Talisker
ASPECT
Golden, with greenish highlights. Good edging.
BODY
medium
NOSE
A slight sensation in the nose with some tingling. Top notes are sweet and maritime, with hints of molasses and crystalline sugar competing with dried seaweed, crystal salt and iodine, then sweet boiled fruit “pear drop” underneath, on a smoky background with traces of charred meat. A drop of water softens the attack, increasing the maritime character and reducing the sweet notes, while introducing a hint of smoke.
PALATE
A soft, velvety texture and a broad taste; salty and above all, slightly sweet, before the Talisker peppery takes over. Very drying. The water wraps around it softening the rich sweetness and bringing out the pepper, but the profile is similar.
FINAL
Long, spicy peppery and drying, finishing sweet and smoky with typical Talisker “peach” chili in swallow. With rounder but similar water, leaving a wisp of smoke on the tongue.
