Il Bruciato Antinori 2021 Bolgheri Doc Rosso

Il Bruciato was born in 2002, in one of the most difficult vintages of Tenuta Guado al Tasso, in order to tell and make known in a modern style the unique terroir of Bolgheri. Carefully selected Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah grapes come from vineyards located on soils with a ‘wide geological variability capable of expressing great complexity.


The 2021 vintage in Bolgheri was characterized by a prolonged dry period from June through the end of September. However, unlike in 2017, the particularly wet winter helped greatly increase the water reserves of the deep soils that distinguish the area, providing the vines with the right support throughout the production phase. The spring, which tended to be cool, encouraged a slight delay in budding and subsequent flowering. Summer temperatures were never excessive, allowing slow and regular ripening of the grapes in each vineyard with excellent levels of integrity and health. The harvest began with Merlot in early September, continued with Cabernet Franc and Syrah around the middle of the month and ended with Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot at the end of September.


Upon arrival at the winery, the selected grapes were destemmed and softly crushed. Fermentation and maceration took place in thermo-conditioned stainless steel tanks for a period of about 10-15 days at a temperature of 28-30 °C. Some of the Merlot and Syrah musts were kept at lower fermentation temperatures to better preserve varietal aromas. Malolactic fermentation took place partly in barriques and partly in stainless steel tanks, and was completed by the end of the year for all varieties. Then Cabernet Sauvignon was combined with Merlot, Syrah, and small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot: the resulting wine met the barrique again, where it rested before indulging in bottling.

Historical Data

Tenuta Guado al Tasso is located in the small and prestigious DOC of Bolgheri, on the coast of Alta Maremma, about a hundred kilometers southwest of Florence. This appellation has a relatively short history (it was established in 1994) but boasts of an international reputation as a new benchmark in the world wine scene. Tenuta Guado al Tasso covers an area of 1,000 hectares-about 320 planted with vines, the rest planted with wheat, sunflowers and olive trees-in a beautiful plain surrounded by hills known as the “Bolgheri amphitheater” because of its particular conformation. Guado al Tasso’s vineyards are composed mainly of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Vermentino grapes, the latter grown with both white and black berries. They enjoy a mild climate due to the nearby presence of the sea: constant breezes mitigate summer heat and winter’s rigors, clean the sky and keep the sunshine index high. Il Bruciato was born in 2002, in one of the most difficult vintages of Tenuta Guado al Tasso, in order to tell and make known in a modern style the unique terroir of Bolgheri. The grape used initially was from Guado al Tasso and then changed over the years varietal composition and had a dedicated vineyard rose. The Bruciato was not produced in 2003.

Tasting Notes

Bruciato 2021 shows the usual deep ruby red color. Notes of ripe small red fruits, sweet spices and tobacco stand out on the nose. The palate is well-structured, enveloping and with a pleasant fruity aftertaste that gives it pleasant drinkability and persistence.
