RED SOIL: The soil structure consists of light or dark medium-textured red sands with good depth. Vineyards that are on dark red soil produce nero d’avola while vineyards that are on light red soil produce frappato. From the nero d’avola and frappato vines comes the famous Cerasuolo di Vittoria (70 percent nero d’avola grapes and 30 percent frappato grapes), a red, flagship product of Valle dell’Acate, which has been awarded the controlled and guaranteed designation of origin (DOCG).
