Valpolicella Classico DOC Second Mark 2018
The Secondo Marco family winery has been operating for three generations in the heart of Valpolicella Classica, Fumane: the elective area of the entire appellation.
Crossing winds promote temperature changes between day and night while keeping the soil dry.
The soil, particularly generous in mineral salts, is highly variable in stratigraphy even for vineyards in the same locality.
For the production of Valpolicella Classico and Ripasso, Amarone and Recioto wines, Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella grapes are vinified in the winery in truncated-cone steel and concrete tanks.
Characteristics
The vineyards are located in the center of Valpolicella Classica, between Verona and Lake Garda, at the foot of the Lessini Mountains.
The particular microclimate is formed by a crossroads of winds: colder winds from the mountains, and milder winds from the
lake, which is particularly favorable for vines. This ventilation promotes slight temperature changes while keeping the soil dry.
Soil:
rich in mineral salts and highly variable in stratigraphy.
Grape varieties:
With pergola planting, the grapes used are: Corvina 60%, Corvinone 25%, Rondinella 10%, other native grapes (Oseleta, Croatina, Pipiona) 5%.
Vinification:
Fermentation: two weeks on the skins.
Aging: six months in concrete tanks; six months in 50 Hl barrels.
Aging: 3 months in bottle
Tasting notes:
Intense ruby red color with intense, very fruity notes with hints of spice and vanilla. On the palate it is young and elegant, very drinkable with good aromatic complexity accompanied by a velvety, round flavor.
