Venica Pinot Grigio Jesera 2020 DOC Collio
Also known as Pinot Gris and originating from Alsace, it has since spread across the globe and is now considered an “international” grape variety. Italy’s leading still white wine by export volume, Italy is the world’s largest producer of it in terms of hectares planted with vines, located mainly in the Triveneto region.
Pinot Grigio was born from a genetic mutation of the more celebrated Pinot Noir, resulting in a variation in its berry color. Despite its widespread popularity, few people know, in fact, that Pinot Grigio is a gray grape, meaning that its berries have a grayish-pink color tending toward purplish. And so it is that, with light maceration on the skins, the resulting wine takes on wonderfully coppery hues.
The “Jesera” vineyard , from which Pinot Grigio takes its name, is located within the Collio DOC.

HARVEST
Grapes were hand-picked and destemmed between September 3 and 10, 2019.
VINIFICATION | AGING
Following harvest, the grapes are then macerated for 4 to 8 hours at a temperature of 14° C directly in the presses, protected from oxygen by innovative systems through the recycling of their own fermentation carbonics, in order to reduce the intake of antioxidants.
The must ferments and affina on the lees for 6 months in both large 20/27 HL wooden barrels (for 10 percent) and steel containers (for 90 percent).
BOTTLING
The wine is then blended and bottled at full moons between March and July 2020.
COLOR
Bright auburn, which is the natural color obtained from this grape with a short maceration on the skins. Hue varies depending on the vintage; this year it is particularly intense.
OLFACTORY NOTES.
Intriguing bouquet ranging from mimosa to jasmine, acacia, ginger, pink pepper, pear and rennet apple, all wrapped in a framework of citrus nuances and resting on a mineral trail.
TASTE NOTES.
Lively and savory mouthfeel, with consistent aromatic returns, for a refreshing, juicy, intense and flavorful sip, creamy but justly acidic. Long and vibrant finish. Texture is good, with very slight tannin from the peel. Overall, this wine maximizes the bouquet and juiciness typical of the grape variety.
TO BE ACCOMPANIED BY
Appetizers and canapés, especially ham, light soups, grilled fish, and white meats. Excellent with risottos, including with spring vegetables. Try it with a nice strawberry-mint sea bass.
