Long ago on Islay-during the last day of the Feis Ile Festival-the locals would turn anything from harvesters to sedans into magnificent floats. If it had wheels, they decorated it.
Adorned with flowers and bright fabrics, these vibrant mobile gardens were a sight to behold. Starting from the Port Ellen pier, the procession proceeded alongside the crowd in Ardbeg before honking its horn and making its way back to be judged. This was a typical Islay color cavalcade.
And this year, Ardbeg Drum is a perfect excuse to celebrate.
In Ardbeg Drum, Ardbeg Scotch whiskey from former Bourbon barrels has been placed in ex-rum barrels from the Americas to produce a truly wonderful flavor paradox. Fragrant pine resin, wood smoke and sea dance along with ripe banana and pineapple. Lavender, licorice and vanilla ripple through rich dark chocolate before sporting a long, smoky finish.
Not cold filtered
Smoked apple and pineapple, ripe banana, fragrant pine resin and subtle wood. Dry cocoa powder, spicy notes of cinnamon and ginger, and “floating” lavender notes.
Peppery texture, big smoky palate, oil, tar, creosote, rich dark chocolate. A treasure trove of spices: clove, licorice and ginger mingle with smoked vanilla.
Intense smoke on the finish, spicier with a sweet coffee liqueur finish.
