Whiskey Sour the official recipe

Spread the love

Not sure what to drink before your dinner party? Today we are recommending a classic for this sultry summer…

Whiskey Sour is a bourbon-based pre-dinner cocktail with lemon juice, sugar and egg white. It is an official cocktail of the IBA.

Whiskey sour is a cocktail containing bourbon, lemon juice, sugar, and optionally a dash of egg white or cocktail foam. With egg white, it is sometimes called Boston Sour. With a few bar spoons of full-bodied red wine floating on top, it is often referred to as a New York Sour. It is shaken and served straight or over ice.

The traditional topping is a half slice of orange and a maraschino cherry. The original version is made with Limón de Pica.

A variant of the whiskey sour is Ward 8, which is often made from bourbon or rye whiskey and includes lemon and orange juices and grenadine syrup as a sweetener. Albumen sometimes employed in other whiskey sours is not usually included.

Here is the IBA recipe for your whiskey sour, and remember: always use a measuring cup to calibrate portions!
