Monteleone Qubba is a red wine of great character and complexity, made from a combination of 90% Nerello Mascalese and 10% Nerello Cappuccio. This wine fully reflects the tradition and quality of Etna viticulture.<\/p>\n
Manufacturer:<\/strong> Monteleone Production Area, Altimetry and Soils:<\/strong> The grapes come from a single vineyard located on the northern slope of Etna, in the municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia, 500 meters above sea level. The area is characterized by its proximity to the Alcantara River, with soils composed of volcanic sands and ash and a medium presence of skeleton. Small percentages of limestone clay (5%) add structure and character to the wine.<\/p>\n Vineyard Cultivation:<\/strong> The vines, planted in 1935, are raised in the traditional Etnean alberello system, with each vine supported by a chestnut wood stake.<\/p>\n Breeding System:<\/strong> Etnean sapling<\/p>\n Vinification:<\/strong> Grapes are harvested in the early morning hours and brought to the winery in 10 kg crates. After destemming, fermentation takes place in small vats without temperature control. During maceration of about 12 days, daily cap breaks are made by hand-pulling. Malolactic fermentation occurs spontaneously after racking.<\/p>\n Aging:<\/strong> The wine evolves for 16 months in 700- and 500-liter French oak tonneaux. Before bottling, it rests for 2 months in cement tanks.
