Zacapa Rum

The Story

Zacapa rum was created in 1976 to commemorate the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the town of Zacapa.

Zacapa is a city in Guatemala located about 112 km from City

Guatemala.

The name Zacapa is derived from the Nahuatl (Aztec) language.

And it means “on the river of grass.”

Unlike most rums that use molasses, Zacapa rum is produced using the first pressing of virgin sugar cane. This makes the rum sweeter and softer, and it is at this point that the distinctive characteristics and flavor profile of Zacapa begin to develop.

Nowhere is this more appropriate than in southern Guatemala, thanks to its mineral-rich volcanic soil and the many rivers that nourish the area. The difference in raw materials can be seen in the depth of Zacapa’s primary aromas and flavors.
