Such an intriguing and exceptional Speyside single malt would not have been possible without a unique heritage dating back to 1898, when John Duff founded his distillery. Located where the old Riach farm once resided in Northern Speyside, Benriach draws its water from a mineral-rich aquifer that flows beneath the distillery. The long production tradition allows the three styles of whiskey to be explored: classic (unsmoked), smoked (with Highland peat) and triple distilled. An eclectic selection of casks from around the world also allows the company to explore all the flavor possibilities of single malts and produce some of Speyside’s richest and most complex whiskies. This tradition continues today under the leadership of master distiller Rachel Barrie.

The Smoky Ten offers an ideal introduction to the unique peat character of Benriach’s single malts using the softer, sweeter peat from Speyside. A very interesting expression for those looking for a new style over the classic peaty whiskies of the island of Islay. The Smoky Ten is matured for at least ten years in bourbon barrels, Jamaican rum barrels and virgin oak barrels.

Profile: Ripe fruit, smoked honey, wood spices on the nose. On the palate maple syrup, spiced pear, apple wood, smoky oak persistence. Long finish with a good dose of smoky hint.
