• History: Mars Distillery, originally from Japan, has a unique and fascinating history. Founded by Kiichiro Iwai, he sent the famous Masataka Taketsuru to Scotland to learn the art of whiskey making. The Shinshu Mars distillery is located at an altitude of 800 meters in a region characterized by a harsh climate, which gives its whiskey a distinctive character. Springs of the purest water filtered from the mountains over the centuries contribute to its uniqueness. Production takes place only during the winter. After closing in the 1980s, the distillery was reopened in 2001.
