Caol Ila is a distillery on the island of Islay in Scotland, famous for producing peaty and smoky whiskies, typical of the island’s distinctive style. Founded in 1846 by Hector Henderson, the distillery is now owned by the Diageo group. Its whiskies are characterised by a strong peaty and salty profile, with notes of smoke, fruit and marine spices.
Caol Ila is renowned for producing a range of single malts that vary from younger and fresher expressions to more mature and complex versions, including the famous Caol Ila 12 Year Old. Although often less well-known than other Islay distilleries, Caol Ila has a strong following among whisky enthusiasts for its consistent quality and distinctive smoky style. ??
