Ardbeg 10 yo Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky cl 70
Smoky and pungent, the peat comes out overbearingly intermingled with a hint of lemon juice and a fruity note that is, however, covered by the initial exuberance of its smoky essence. At times it looks like coal, such is the intensity of the smoke. The folks at Ardbeg certainly did not want to “tame” the spirit of this whiskey. The sense of smell, however, does not stop there: as we continue, we pick up notes of smoked bacon and, I would say, even sea breeze. A hint of chocolate emerges as the hint of peat becomes more tame, though still predominant. There is no shortage of pear juice and a hint of pineapple. Treating it in the glass a few more minutes, roasted hazelnut, a pleasant touch of beeswax and even a sweet, delicate note of vanilla also emerges. Definitely remarkable, fresh and vital.
