Mezcal Sale Online – Buy the best mezcal in the world in our online wine shop – Curiosity: Mescal, in Spanish mezcal, náhuatl mexcalli is a Mexican distillate obtained from the agave plant and mainly produced in the state of Oaxaca.
Mescal, unlike the better known tequila, is produced only with the central part of the agave known as espadin. When the plant reaches 6/8 years of life, all the leaves are harvested and cut, leaving only the heart, which is called piña due to its appearance and which is cooked in special underground ovens. After cooking it is ground and left to macerate for 14 to 30 days. This is followed by distillation in small pot stills, which can last a long time and be carried out twice.

The distillate is then left to rest in large wooden barrels for a period ranging from 2 months to 7 years. During this time it acquires a golden and gradually darker color.

Aging has three distinct denominations:

Añejo – for at least one year, in barrels of no more than 200 liters;
Reposado – for a period of two months to a year;
Blanco – clear, stored less than two months.
