Rhubarb Zampetti Handcrafted Elixir 70 cl Unpacked
An elixir with a delicately bitter taste, unmistakable fragrance and pleasant, lingering aftertaste, it is still prepared according to an ancient recipe of Dr. Ernesto Zampetti, founder in the very early 1900s,of the pharmacy of the same name in Pontremoli in the province of Massa Carrara.
The heart of the bitter is the root of the rhubarb, Rheum Palmatum, from plants over four years old (prized “pink split” quality). Dried and reduced to fragments, it releases its aromas by resting in an infusion of alcohol and pure Lunigiana water. Combined with cinchona calissaia, medicinal herbs, alcohol and sugar, after maturation, it gives a liqueur that is enjoyed either enjoyed neat or included in the many cocktails offered by various bartenders.
