Tenuta delle Terre Nere Etna Rosso Moganazzi DOC 2020
“Moganazzi and Guardiola, with Santo Spirito closely following, have always been considered the best terroirs in the municipality of Castiglione, the largest on Etna’s northern slopes. Consequently, in 2007, when I discovered a very small plot of Moganazzi for sale, I grabbed it without hesitation. But he was so tiny that I decided to dedicate his splendid wine-three barrels! – to a charity project related to Meyer Children’s Hospital in Florence.
Three years ago he managed to buy an adjacent parcel and rent another piece immediately next door. So, with the 2017 vintage I began bottling Moganazzi cru for Terre Nere as well. ” Marco de Grazia
Aesthetically stunning, the vineyard stands at 700 meters on steep terraces covered with sapling vines about eighty years old. The entire production is around 3,000 bottles plus some magnums. The wine is sparkling: of dense fabric and luminous character, with compelling attack and the understated loveliness of a Greek sculpture. Over time its refined drive makes way for a soft resilience, combined with a nervous and intimate sustained richness of a twilight.
