Planeta Eruzione 1614 Pinot Noir Terre Siciliane I.G.T. 2020
Among the terraces of Sciaranuova-at the edge of the sciara formed by the historic 10-year eruption of 1614-the smallest of the plots is home to 3,000 plants of Pinot Noir, a variety that has been grown in the area for centuries, albeit not consistently and widely. The result is a totally original version of this aristocratic grape variety.
SOIL TYPE: Soils with perfect exposure and bedding, black from lava sands and therefore extraordinarily rich in minerals with abundant, large structure; around, forests and more recent lava flows. ALTIMETRY: 820 meters above sea level.
YIELD PER HECTARE: 42 quintals.
GROWTH SYSTEM: espalier with Guyot pruning system.
PLANTING DENSITY: 5,050 plants per hectare CULTIVATION METHOD: according to organic farming criteria and the SOStain® protocol; grassed soils with wild flora to increase organic matter, promoting the vitality of soil microfauna; pest defense with sulfur and copper in minimal amounts; pest control with beneficial insects, sexual confusion and application of natural corroborants such as zeolite, kaolin and plant extracts.
TIME OF HARVEST: September 11-12. VINIFICATION: The grapes, harvested in crates of about 14 kg, were chilled to 10 degrees, then hand-selected and sent for destemming, without being crushed, then taken to fermentation
in open tonneaux–gradually raising temperature to 26 °C–with light manual punching down, 13 days on skins, followed by basket press. AGING: steel.
