In terms of authenticity, Flor de Caña is the ultimate: it is among the very few rums in the Caribbean that can claim ownership of all stages of the production process. Proprietary sugar cane and molasses, own fermentation and distillation, aging and bottling on site.

The Pellas family, originally from Genoa, settled in Nicaragua in the late 1800s and created the country’s most important company, operating in banking, computers, automobiles and, of course, Ron. The company was founded in 1890 in Chichigalpa, a hundred and twenty kilometers from Managua.
The
initial intent was to establish a large sugarcane plantation in soils very conducive to this type of crop. In 1937 an independent company was established within the plantation, Compañia Licorera de Nicaragua, to produce and sell rum.

To get there, drive north out of Managua and along the rough road through the beautiful colonial city of Leon and the lush Nicaraguan countryside to the Ingenio Azucarero San Antonio and the Flor de Caña distillery.

Ingenious San Antonio produces both cane sugar and 64 percent molasses that is then processed at the distillery. Six distillation columns generate a distillate that is put into small 135-liter ex-bourbon barrels and stowed in almacen conditioned to 28° temperature. The loss due to evaporation is 7% per year. Flor de Caña owns 150,000 barrels in the Chichigalpa bodegas, one of the most important stocks in the world.

In recent years Flor de Cana has renewed the entire range and has a new elegance based on the image of the volcanoes that dominate the Nicaraguan landscape. The shape of the label and the movement of the new logo are the two most important and characteristic visual elements.
